Dumpster Bin Rental Sizes: Choosing Between 10, 12, 17 and 20 Yards

Choosing a dumpster size is a balance. Too small and you may need a second bin. Too large and you're paying for space you won't use. Here's how our 10, 12, 17 and 20-yard bin rentals compare, with the confirmed prices for each.

What does "yard" mean?
A bin's size in "yards" refers to cubic yards: how much volume it holds. A bigger number means more space. It doesn't mean more included weight. Every one of our bins includes 1 tonne (1,000 kg), whatever the size.
10-yard bin: small cleanouts and yard jobs
The 10-yard bin suits small cleanouts, single-room projects and yard cleanups. It works well for clearing a spare room, a small shed or a weekend of yard work. It's also a sensible choice for heavier material in small amounts, because heavy loads reach the 1-tonne allowance quickly.
12-yard bin: garages, basements and small renos
The 12-yard bin is a good fit for garage or basement cleanouts, small bathroom or kitchen renovations, and yard cleanups. If you're preparing a garage or basement, our cleanout checklist helps you sort before the bin arrives.
17-yard bin: whole-home and mid-size renovations
The 17-yard bin handles whole-home decluttering, flooring or drywall removal, and mid-size renovations. It suits projects that produce bulky debris over a few days, like tearing out carpet and underlay throughout a floor.
20-yard bin: larger renovations and job sites
The 20-yard bin is our largest. It's built for larger renovations, estate or move-out cleanouts, and contractor or job-site debris. Remember that the included weight is still 1 tonne (1,000 kg), so very dense loads may fill the allowance before they fill the bin.

Volume vs. weight: the part people miss
A load of old furniture and cardboard fills a bin long before it gets heavy. A load of tile, plaster, shingles or concrete can get heavy long before the bin looks full. If your project includes heavy materials such as concrete, dirt, rock or roofing shingles, select them on the quote form. Those materials have extra weight requirements, and we'll confirm what's allowed before delivery.
Four questions to pick the right size
- What's going in? Household junk, renovation debris, yard waste or heavy materials?
- How much? Picture it as pickup-truck loads, or list the big items.
- How heavy? Dense materials point you toward a smaller bin, and toward keeping an eye on the 1-tonne allowance.
- Where will it go? You need a firm, level spot with room for our truck to back in and lift. Our placement and loading guide explains more.

Frequently asked questions
Does every bin size include 1 tonne?
Yes. Every size, from 10 to 20 yards, includes 1 tonne (1,000 kg) of waste and a 3-day rental. Weight over 1,000 kg is $45 per extra 500 kg or part: up to 500 kg over is $45, and 501 to 1,000 kg over is $90.
What if I need the bin for more than 3 days?
Tell us when you book. Extra days are $20 per day after the included 3 days, plus GST.
Should I just get the biggest bin to be safe?
Not always. A larger bin holds more volume, but it doesn't include more weight. For heavy materials, a smaller bin is often the better fit. Choose “Help me choose” and we'll recommend one.
Do you deliver bins outside Edmonton?
Yes. We serve Edmonton and all surrounding communities. Send your address and we'll confirm.
