Bin Rentals for Edmonton-Area Renovations: Placement, Loading and Pickup

A renovation bin keeps your site organized and your debris in one place. Getting the placement, loading and timing right means fewer surprises, whether you're renovating in Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Leduc or Beaumont.

Where to place the bin

  • Firm, level ground. A driveway or other solid, level surface works best.
  • Room for the truck. Our truck needs space to back in and lift the bin into place, and to collect it later.
  • Look up. Check for overhead wires, low branches or eaves above the spot.
  • Think about your surface. If you're concerned about your driveway surface, tell us when you book.
  • Keep access clear to garages, doors and walkways you'll still need during the project.

Placing a bin on the street in Edmonton

If a bin has to go on a City of Edmonton road instead of your property, a permit is needed. The City requires an On-Street Construction and Maintenance (OSCAM) permit to place a commercial waste bin on City road right-of-way, and bins must be retro-reflective or have temporary traffic control (City of Edmonton). The City notes processing can take longer in peak construction season, so plan ahead. Requirements can change, so check the City's current rules before booking.

Outside Edmonton, communities such as St. Albert, Strathcona County (Sherwood Park) and Spruce Grove set their own rules for bins on public roads. Check with your municipality. And ask us before booking any street placement.

How to load a renovation bin

  • Heavy items first, spread evenly across the floor of the bin.
  • Break down bulky debris: flatten boxes, cut long pieces and fill gaps.
  • Keep it level with the top. No overfilling, so the load can be covered and transported safely.
  • No hazardous materials: paint, chemicals, fuel, propane tanks, batteries or asbestos.
  • Heavy materials need a heads-up. Concrete, brick, dirt, rock and roofing shingles have extra weight requirements. Select them on the form and we'll confirm what's allowed.

Watch the weight: 1 tonne goes faster than you think

Every bin includes 1 tonne (1,000 kg), whatever its size. Renovation debris like drywall, tile, plaster and concrete is dense, so a bin can reach 1,000 kg before it looks full. If your project is heavy, mention it when you book. We'll help you choose the right setup.

Make the most of your 3 days

  • Schedule delivery for the morning your tear-out starts, not days before.
  • Line up helpers so loading happens while demolition is underway.
  • If you think you'll need longer, ask before booking. Extra days are $20 per day.

Pickup day

  • Keep the area around the bin clear, with no vehicles, materials or tools blocking the truck.
  • Make sure nothing sticks out above the top of the bin.
  • Let us know about gates, codes or access details.

Choosing a size

We offer 10, 12, 17 and 20-yard bins, from $270 to $395 CAD + GST, each including 3 days and 1 tonne (1,000 kg). Extra days are $20 per day; weight over 1,000 kg is $45 per extra 500 kg or part. The bin size guide compares each size and what it suits.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit to put a bin in my driveway?

The City of Edmonton's OSCAM permit applies to bins on City road right-of-way. For a bin on your own driveway, check any rules with your municipality or condo board, and tell us about placement when you book.

How full can I load the bin?

Keep the load level with the top of the bin so it can be covered and transported safely. Spread heavy items evenly.

What happens if I go over 1 tonne?

Weight over the included 1,000 kg is $45 per extra 500 kg or part: up to 500 kg over is $45, 501 to 1,000 kg over is $90, and so on. Tell us about heavy materials when you book so we can help you plan.

Can I put shingles or concrete in the bin?

Heavy materials like shingles, concrete, dirt and rock have extra weight requirements. Select them on the form and we'll confirm what's allowed for your bin before delivery.
